Hackers broke into British company Pitiform’s popular software CCleaner last month potentially allowing them to control the devices of more than 2 million users. This was a more sophisticated attack similar to “NotPetya”. The software maintained a proper digital certificate and which means that other computers would trust it and there was nothing that an end user could have noticed.

The 2 confirmed compromised versions were released in August and were CCleaner v5.33.6162 and CCleaner Cloud v1.07.3191.

The desktop version of this software  saw over 2.27 millions downloads in August alone!
A new uncompromised version was release on September 15th and all users are advised to uninstall any version of CCleaner they have on their machines and download the latest version.
